How Much Does a New Roof Cost in Rhode Island?
There's no single price per house. Get a personalized preliminary estimate built from your own roof's measurements and the materials you choose.
How RoofPrice calculates your estimate
Two homes on the same street can have very different roof prices. The cost depends on how much roof there is, how steep it is, how many sections and angles it has, and which materials you choose — so an estimate based on your own roof is more useful than a statewide average.
When you enter your address, we measure your roof from aerial data: its sloped surface area, pitch and number of roof sections. You can adjust the roof outline to leave out decks or patios. We then price each item separately from an itemized price book — tear-off and disposal, shingles, underlayment, ice & water barrier, drip edge, ridge cap, vents, pipe boots and labor — for Good, Better and Best packages.
Items that can't be measured from above, like decking condition or extra shingle layers, appear as allowances. Your preliminary estimate is a planning number; a local roofing professional reviews your roof and confirms the final price in a detailed proposal.
Pricing factors
What affects roof replacement cost in Rhode Island?
Roof surface area
Priced by the square (100 sq ft) using your roof's measured sloped area. Materials are ordered with a waste allowance of roughly 10–15%, depending on how complex the roof is.
Roof pitch and complexity
Roofs steeper than about 8/12 need extra safety setup and labor, which adds a per-square charge. More sections, hips and valleys add cutting, waste and time.
Material selection
The shingle line and accessory system you choose — Good, Better or Best — is one of the biggest swings in price.
Tear-off and disposal
Removing the old roof and hauling it away. Larger roofs need more dumpsters, and extra old layers found at tear-off add cost.
Underlayment and accessories
Synthetic underlayment, ice & water barrier at eaves and valleys, starter strip, drip edge, ridge cap and pipe boots are each priced separately.
Ventilation
Vents are counted for your roof and priced individually. Higher packages include ventilation upgrades.
Site conditions and access
Tight access, landscaping protection, or damaged decking found during tear-off can change the scope. Your roofer confirms these before the final price.

FAQs
Rhode Island roof pricing questions.
How is my roof price calculated?
We measure your roof from aerial data for your address — surface area, pitch and the number of roof sections — then price each item from an itemized price book: tear-off, disposal, shingles, underlayment, ice & water barrier, drip edge, ridge cap, vents, pipe boots and labor. There is no single price-per-square shortcut.
How accurate is a preliminary estimate?
It's a planning number, not a quote. Aerial data can't show decking condition, extra shingle layers, or exact edge and valley lengths, so those are shown as allowances. Your final price may be higher or lower once a roofer reviews your roof.
What's the difference between a preliminary estimate and a detailed proposal?
The preliminary estimate is generated instantly from your roof measurements and the package you choose. A detailed proposal comes from your roofing partner after they review your roof details, confirm the scope and quantities, and put the final price and terms in writing.
Who reviews my roof before I commit?
A participating local roofing professional reviews your roof details — online or in person — and confirms the scope and final price. You decide whether to move forward. There's no obligation.
